Abstract
Dance education involves the teaching of tradition, technique and style of dances. This will include knowledge and application of folk, social, and popular dance which promote and develop physical, mental, socio-cultural, recreational, and emotional capacities of the individual. It aims to understand the physical fitness value derived from participation in dance and exhibit an enhance appreciation for the role of dance in a culture.
Dances are the outburst of one's feelings and emotions. Movements have aesthetic and symbolic value and is acknowledged as dance by performers and observers within a particular culture. Dances contribute a lot on individuals who perform and its benefits to people cannot be denied. Dancing is so much more than just grooving on the dance floor to your favorite tunes. In fact, you'll be surprised how many benefits are associated with dancing. Not only does it train your brain and your body's motor skills but it also is an excellent exercise for your entire body.
This book includes the three classifications of dances such as folk, social/ballroom and popular dances. This will enable the students to have a wide array of activities which they will enjoy performing. Many of the activities also include warm up exercises for all the dances, fundamental arms and feet positions in folk dancing, common dance terms and dance steps.
Yeba dance as an exercise dance incorporating the basic dance steps in folk dancing is also included in this book. The students will be able to choreographed their own Yeba dance with our own Filipino music.
In social/ballroom dance, different types will be read and performed. Some sample routine is also given so as to have an ease in performing and eventually creating a new routine thus developing the creativity of the students. Tips on performing correctly the social dances are also given.
This book includes popular dances. Street/hip0hop dances are given emphasis. Basic styles like popping, krump, waacking etc. as well as simple steps in hip-hop is appended.
