Abstract
We believe that the Philippines is blessed to have gifted and talented citizens. Many Filipinos excel in different fields here and abroad. They excel in various fields, like music, arts, literature, dance, and sports. We also read about Filipinos excelling in law, politics, business, medicine, and social sciences. There are also outstanding Filipino scientists and mathematicians. The gifted are truly gifts to our nation.
This module was conceptualized to help teachers and students in understanding gifted and talented students. It facilitates better understanding of the nature, characteristics, needs, and personalities of Filipino gifted learners. Gifted students are unlike other normal students in the classroom. They are capable of high performance, and demonstrate extraordinary performance, leadership, and capability in any creative and intellectual activities and other academic fields. If their potentials, abilities, and talents are fully developed and utilized, they could be valuable human assets for a nation.
This module is designed in such a way that it:
G- guides teachers and students in understanding concepts about gifted students;
I- Introduces the learners to giftedness in different areas and domains;
F- follows the requirements of CMO 77, s. 2017 and Outcomes-Based Education principles prescribed by CMO 46, s. 2012;
T- trains students and teachers to develop lessons, activities, and programs for gifted students;
E- engages the students in meaningful activities that require creativity and critical thinking; and
D- develops understanding of curriculum models and programs for gifted students.
This module can be used in the school setting or in trainings and seminars.
