Economics 

Applied Economics introduces the fundamentals of economics to senior high school students following the business track. This track serves as the groundwork for entrepreneurial endeavors after high school or advanced business and entrepreneurial courses in college. Despite its holistic scope, this book emphasizes the microeconomic realities against the macroeconomic setting from the business perspective. From the same perspective, it also familiarizes the students with the other functional business areas (e.g., marketing and finance) which are interdependent with economics. Every lesson starts with the discussion of theories and moves on to illustrate their applications to real economic problems empirically supported by official statistics and scientific studies. This book then challenges the students to better understand and apply the theories to the economic problems they experience. It also challenges them to appreciate the issues surrounding both the national and global economy that can potentially affect their lives. Furthermore, it emphasizes business as an important sector of the economy. Finally, this book leads the students to prepare simple small business plans for future development, considering local opportunities and needs. Along the course, this book also familiarizes the students with basic graphical and diagrammatical analysis with simple mathematical applications as learning tools. As for the final preparation for the simple business plan, it teaches the students simple business analysis and planning. Overall, the worktext challenges the students to discover economics from practical and personal perspectives. More than learning the subject in their milieu, their discoveries will become even more experiential as the teacher guides them to see the world by visiting business establishments and markets. In this teacher- guided course, they will discover the personal use of economics in their current understanding and future endeavors. The authors hope that this book, even in its small way, will contribute to their promising endeavors.
